In the United States, we just spent an extended weekend giving thanks, enjoying time with family, and indulging in extra helpings of cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. But American holidays are not the only cause for celebration around here—through the people we work with, we get to taste the culture of many countries, including special days and holiday traditions.
The Type Network family hails from all over the world. Our leadership, team members, and foundry partners form a virtual network where creative collaboration and camaraderie are accomplished via messaging apps, video conferencing, and other tools designed to unite distributed teams.
We chat all the time, and see each other’s faces on various devices. We brainstorm and work on projects through shared docs and shared file repositories. Onscreen, we get to see the spouses, partners, parents, children, and furry loved ones of our Type Network family. While it’s not exactly like meeting everyone in a physical office every day, it works nicely for us.
With the US Thanksgiving holiday comes Black Friday, followed by the juggernaut that is Cyber Monday. Today isn’t a holiday, but to us, Cyber Monday signifies something much greater than scoring deals on shoes and big-screen TVs. It’s symbolic of the digital world that allows us to work together, to form new friendships, and to further solidify existing relationships.
We’re thankful to be connected to some of the most amazing people on the planet, and grateful we can meet in the virtual realm—whether with colleagues, foundry partners, customers, or type-minded friends. And our mostly digital gatherings make it all the more special when we get to be in the same room at the same time.
We’re incredibly lucky. We get to work with awesome people who love type as much as we do. From the type makers to the storytellers who use type so beautifully, we’d like to thank you for letting us be part of your world.
The Type Network staff is on a sentimental journey.
