TN on TkM Type ID Contest

Mad about type? Down for a challenge? Have we got a game for you! Enter the #TNonTkM Type ID Contest for a chance to win fabulous typographic prizes and the respect of your type-lovin’ peers.

It’s been an exciting day at Type Network. We’re celebrating the launch of the Adobe Typekit Marketplace and being part of this new venture.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, we’ve concocted a typographic brain teaser designed to exercise your typographic sleuthing skills: the #TNonTkM Type ID Contest.

If you’re at Adobe MAX this week, stop by the Typekit booth in the Community Pavilion. Pick up a Type Network postcard, and carefully examine the characters on the front of the card. Some are there in their entirety, while others just show a tantalizing section of the glyph. If you’re not at MAX, don’t fret! You can play by downloading and printing the postcard as a PDF and following the rest of the instructions. (See below.)

Want to enter? Grab our promo postcard at the Typekit booth in the MAX Pavilion and start identifying all these beautiful typefaces. Or download and print this PDF, write your IDs on the back, and hit us up on Twitter. Don’t forget to include this all-important hashtag in your tweet: #TNonTkM.

Write the name of each typeface on the back of the postcard. Include the full name of the style, please—for example, Gimlet Display Compressed Black. (And no, that‘s not a freebie—Gimlet is not one of the typefaces shown on this particular postcard.)

You’ll find all the pictured typefaces somewhere on the Type Network website. Explore the catalog, read foundry partner news, view the galleries, and carefully examine type specimen graphics to find the answers you seek.

Once you‘ve identified all the typefaces, scan or take a photo of your completed ID, and tweet it to @TypeNetwork, along with the hashtag #TNonTkM. One winner will be chosen at random out of all correct entries submitted. If no one person correctly identifies all the typefaces before the contest ends, we will choose a winner at random from those who submit the highest number of correct entries.

If you write really big (no pressure, we love large letters) and run out of room on the back of the postcard, never fear. You can continue your type ID list on a sheet of blank paper. Just make sure the photo(s) of your completed entry captures all font names.

Write legibly, folks, and tweet a high-res photo at us. We must be able to read your entry in order to validate your type IDs.

This is the kind of thing we’re looking for. How easy is that?

Helpful Hints

  • The Type Network logo is set in Font Bureau’s Momentum, the custom typeface David Berlow created for our corporate identity. So you don’t need to worry about that one.
  • There are 23 glyphs in total, not including the Type Network logo.
  • There are only 21 typefaces used.
  • All 13 current exclusive Type Network foundry partners have at least one character on this card.
  • We know some of these are a little tough, so we will be dropping hints on Twitter to help you solve the puzzle. Follow us to pick up essential clues.

Contest begins right now, and closes at noon Pacific Time next Wednesday, November 9. We will announce the winner on Twitter on Thursday, November 10.

The winning entry will receive a prize pack of goodies from Type Network and some of our foundry partners. Wearables, drinkables, readables… all typographic, of course!

Any questions? Tweet at us. Have fun, and good luck!
